Kenly, NC (April 6,
2008) – For IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Doug Godsey
started the 2008 racing season with a
decent showing, but hadn’t made a mark
yet at Southern National Raceway Park.
At Sunday’s Break the Bank 200, Godsey
made his mark and showed that his 05
Chevy is going to be a contender this
season.
The
Richmond, VA driver took the pole with a
speed of 96.347 mph, and led every lap
in taking his first win of 2008.
The race looked to be all but finished
with two laps to go, but Goldsboro, NC’s
Matt McCall came roaring back when
Godsey began to overheat. Godsey
held McCall off through the final two
turns to win, keeping McCall from his
first win of 2008. Ryan Rhodes
would finish third, with Corey
Strickland and CE Falk rounding out the
top five. Bushwood, MD driver Kyle
Hall had a strong third place run going
when the engine of his Monte Carlo blew
to bring out the only caution of the
race.
After three
Nascar Whelen All-American Series Late
Model Stock events, Sanford, NC’s Ryan
Rhodes leads in points, followed by
Corey Strickland (only 6 points behind),
Sherman Davis Jr., CE Falk, and Kyle
Hall.
Wesley Falk
gathered his second win in two attempts
in the Bobby Murray Chevrolet GM
Performance Parts Limited Late Models,
holding off PJ Flowers and Billy Corey.
The accident-marred race saw Donald
Brace sit on the pole and lead the first
14 laps before giving way to PJ Flowers.
Flowers would hold the lead for 7 laps
before Falk made a move for the lead and
wouldn’t look back. The 50 lap
race saw 6 cautions that would take out
over half the field, with only five cars
remaining at the end. Travis
Roberson and Tom Holland Jr. rounded out
the field of non-DNF cars.
In Bobby
Murray Chevrolet GM Performance Parts
Super Stocks, Kevin Benton would lead
all but the first two laps to take his
first official win of 2008. David
Warren made a late pass on Duane Walker
for second, with Walker holding off
Gerald Benton for third. Walker
would turn around to win the Papa Jack’s
Store and Grill Street Stock event, with
Joe Gates Jr. and Sonny Jay Fisher
finishing second and third.
In 4
Cylinders, Kevin Pierce led the first 12
laps of the 25 lap event before blowing
and engine. Lee Kozikowski would
take over the lead, but not before John
“Crow” Whitley would take over.
Whitley would lead all the way until lap
24, when Jeremy Bohne made a late pass
going into turn three on the last lap to
win his first race of 2008.
Whitley would hang on for second, and
Kozikowski third. In UCARs, Jason
Capps led the majority of the race,
making it look easy over Albert Lamont
and Ronnie Deveva.
Southern
National Raceway Park’s next race is
Saturday, April 12, when the USAC Mopar
National Midget Car Series comes roaring
into the high banks of SNRP.
Open-wheelers from all over the country,
including those racing for Tony Stewart
