Kenly, NC (April 12,
2008) – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The drive
home from Kenly to Bushwood, MD must
have seemed much shorter than the drive
to Kenly for Kyle Hall. For the
first few races of the season, Hall had
been knocking on the door of the lead,
but had yet to lead a lap. At the
end of Saturday night’s action, he had
led exactly one lap, but it was the one
that mattered.
Qualifying
had been cancelled due to rain, so the
field in the Nascar Whelen All-American
Series Late Model division was set by
points, putting Ryan Rhodes and Corey
Strickland on the front row.
Rhodes would lead from the opening flag
all the way to lap 27, when Richmond,
VA’s Doug Godsey would move to the
point. Godsey looked like he had
it in the bag, when the 69 machine of
Hall would make it to Godsey’s bumper.
Going into turn three on the last lap,
Hall made the pass to win his first race
at Southern National Raceway Park.
Godsey would finish .07 seconds behind
Hall for second, with Sherman Davis Jr.
third, Ryan Rhodes fourth and Michael
Hardin fifth.
After four
races, Ryan Rhodes leads in points by 22
over Sherman Davis Jr. Third is
Corey Strickland, who falls back from
second after losing a rear axle in
Saturday’s race. Kyle Hall moves
up to fourth after winning, with Doug
Godsey taking fifth in points.
Taylor
Howard would lead the first 21 laps of
the Bobby Murray Chevrolet GM
Performance Parts Limited Late Model
race, until Adam Murray made his way by
to lead the final 29 and take his first
win of 2008. PJ Flowers would
finish second, and Howard third.
In the Bobby Murray Chevrolet GM
Performance Parts Super Stock division,
Kevin Benton made a mid-race pass on
Duane Walker to win, with Keith Edwards
finishing third.
Kevin Pierce
won from the pole in 4 Cylinders,
besting Jeremy Bohne and Lee Kozikowski.
Tracy Banks made a pass on lap 11 of the
Papa Jack’s Store and Grill Street Stock
race to best Sonny Fisher and Kevin
Benton. In UCARs, Jason Capps won
his second race in two tries, with
Albert Lamont and Ronnie Devera taking
second and third respectively, and
Travis Miller bested Cecil Lynn Waller
and Duane Walker in V6 UCARs.
The USAC
Mopar National Midget Car Series came
into Southern National Raceway Park, and
saw Kody Swanson win from the pole,
leading all 40 laps in their main event.
Dakota Armstrong held tight but couldn’t
do anything with Swanson despite a
last-lap dive into turn three.
Cole Whitt finished third.
Southern
National Raceway Park is off this
weekend, but will return Saturday, April
26 featuring 100 laps of Nascar Whelen
All-American Series Late Models.
Also on the schedule are the Bobby
Murray Chevrolet GM Performance Parts
Limited Late Models and Super Stocks,
Papa Jack’s Store and Grill Street
Stocks, 4 Cylinders, Mod-4s, V6 UCARs
and UCARs, as well as the INEX Legends
and Rolling Thunder Modified series
making their first trip into SNRP for
the 2008 season. Tickets are $12
