Changes at Southern National Raceway
Park
For
Immediate Release
Lucama, North Carolina – April 23, 2008
Change is an
inevitable part of business and racing.
Over the recent years many changes have
taken place at SNRP. This year is
no different. As the economic
landscape changes so do the needs and
direction of the racetrack.
You may have
heard a lot of rumors about the state of
the race track. To be clear, we
are not closing the facility.
However, the track, like many other
businesses in this area, is going
through challenging times. As a
result, we are working and will continue
to work on strategies to help ensure
that the fans and racers have a top
quality racing facility where you can
enjoy the best local racing in the
country. In order to better
compete in this time of uncertainty, we
felt that changes needed to be made to
ensure the long term viability of the
track. Employee responsibilities
have been adjusted and consolidated to
help trim payroll expense.
Divisions will be reduced and racing
start times will be adjusted to take
advantage of natural light and reduce
overall operating expenses. Here
are some of the initial changes we will
be making:
-
We have
made the decision to eliminate the
Mod-4 division and combine the V6
UCar division with the existing
UCars. In addition, we have
suspended the Super Stock Division
until such time a decision can be
made on the long term viability of
the class.
-
Beginning with the April 26 event,
all Late Model Stock cars with crate
motors will have to weigh an
additional 50 pounds.
“J.
GM Crate engine
cars must weigh minimum 3100 pounds,
1395 minimum right side (55% left side
maximum).”
“K.
Ford Crate
engine cars must weigh minimum 3150
pounds, 1417 minimum right side (55%
left side maximum).”
-
To
enhance the fan and racing
experience we have implemented the
“Frenzied Fan Invert”. At the
beginning of each class, except the
Late Model Stocks, a fan will be
selected to be the “Frenzied Fan”
for that event. They will get
a shirt, the chance to wave the
green flag and pull a pill to
determine the inversion order for
that race. If the original
poll winner wins the event the
“Frenzied Fan” will also receive two
general admissions tickets for the
next regular season event.
-
For Late
Model Stocks we obtained the “Cooper
Insurance Pole Hard Charger”.
Prior to the start of the 100 lap
Late Model Race or the 1st
Twin Race, if it is a twin event, a
“Frenzied Fan” will be selected to
pull a pill to invert up to 10
positions. The pole award
winner will get 5 bonus points and
may earn up to $25 for every
position gained as a result of the
inversion, provided they win the
race. The “Frenzied Fan” will
receive a t-shirt, the chance to
wave the checkered flag and if the
original pole winner wins, two
general admission tickets to the
next regular season event.
We believe
that these changes will continue the
tradition of great competitive racing at
SNRP and encourage more fan involvement
and enthusiasm for the sport, while
enabling the race park to remain viable
through these difficult times. We
greatly appreciate your continued
support, and value any input you can
provide. We look forward to your
suggestions on helping us ensure that
SNRP stays a viable part of the local
racing scene.
