Jason Hogan Picks Up Momentum at Kenly and Wins

For Immediate Release

Southern National Raceway Park PR

Kenly, North Carolina: (October 4, 2008)

It was another action packed night of ASA Sanctioned racing at Del Richards Southern National Raceway Park in Kenly, NC Saturday night October 4th where for the first time in their Inaugural season the R/C Cola Moon Pie ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour Super Late Models made the debut of the Kenly 100. 21 Drivers made the call for the event and allot was up for grabs like, could #74 of Jay Middleton of Gainesville, FL finish 4th or better to get the honor of being the first champion in the ASA SAT also can #5 of Concord, NC Preston Peltier claim the Beach tour title and with the absence of #2 of Jasper, AL's John Bolen that gave Middleton a chance to take the beach title as well. Also #70 of Jeff Choquette from Loxahatchee, FL after being disqualified at Hickory September 20 could he get prestige and get the win and get back on track all those questions and titles would be decided in front of a full crowd and TV cameras in the Kenly 100.  With three support classes running in made an eventful night.

The first race of the night was the Rolling Thunder Modifieds presented by Red Man for 75 laps as 13 drivers hit the high banks of SNRP for exciting open wheel action. Jerry Sink's owned racing series saw #06 of Gary Wheaton lead from the pole the first seven circuits until lap 8 when the 2x of Larry Penny made some contact with another car in Turn 1 and sustained left front damage to his car he went into the pits but then rejoined the race. Then on the restart is was hard racing all over the field when on lap11 the #9 of Tony Ingram came into the pits with transmission troubles and fell down a couple of laps. Yellow flag #2 was on lap 21 when the #20 of Billy Morris was leading and entered turn 2 and the car started having fluid come pouring from under the motor. Morris's night was done as the #2x of Larry Penny finally hit pit road for the final time and to his night was done as well. They went clean and green for a while and then caution fell on lap 35 when the #9 of Ingram's transmission finally broke on the front stretch and it was safe to say to his night was done. After all this mayhem is going on the track the #99 Defending Champion A.J. Winstead was in command and was having a good run until lap 66 when he cut down a right front tire forces the caution and Winstead having to come in to take on new right front rubber ending his hope of winning and giving the lead for good to the #01 of Darrell Byson. Second went to #2 Doug Paasch,3rd #06 of pole sitter Gary Wheaton and rounding out the top 5 was #21 Ryan Wilbourne and #11 Brooks Lawson.

The Bobby Murray GM Super Stock race was second on the card as 11 drivers took the green flag for 50 Laps. Caution #1 feel on lap #1 when the #2 of Wesley Hawkins spun in turn 3 he was okay and joined the field at the rear. Then after two full song laps the yellow would fall again when the #50 William Hardision stall on the back stretch and came to pit road for his night to end early. Yellow flag fever again when #87 of Eddie Howard stalls car on track and brings out the caution. Now at this point the #88 of Terry Cline took the point and thought he had the win until the Cautions fell again on three other occasions making the attrition rate climb more and more with the other #50 of Frankie Dominick Jr. bringing the yellow out on two occasions and the last yellow for debris in turn 3. This set up a Green, White, and Checkerd Situation and on the restart #01 was able to get around Terry Cline and that was all he needed #93 Keith Edwards was second, third to #55 of Gerald Benton and #8 of Matthew Meeks and LT1 of Lizzie Smith finished fifth.

The time had finally come for the big daddy of the night the Kenly 100 for the ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour for round #11 for the season #70 of Jeff Choquette was the fastest in qualifying and after the top 4 redrawing it put the #89 of Jess Mattox on the pole and Choquette on the outside. Twenty one drivers hit the gas in front of a full crowd and like I stated earlier Visioncast Television cameras for a tape delayed broadcast of the event. Trouble on Lap #1 when #79 of Chris Bowers got caught in traffic and had nowhere to go and plowed into #04 Jared Foley and the concrete hard destroying the front end of his car. On the restart there was plenty of hard racing between Choquette,#5 Preston Peltier, and #1 Stephan McCurley and the #40S of Taylor Satterfield and #92 of Jason Hogan. Problems on lap 36 with Choquette trying to stay up front and moving through lap traffic, a lap car blocked the middle lane and forced the leader Choquette up the track and smacking the concrete to then slow and force the yellow to fly again this would give the lead to #92 Jason Hogan. During this caution #K7 of BIG Jim Kelly would park and retire from the event. Then on the restart trouble again on lap 37 when the #05 of Alex Fleming and the #M3 tangle hard at the bottom of the banking forces the caution both were damaged but continued after the incident. At the Halfway mark #92 of Jason Hogan still leads until caution #3 on lap 58 when a broke rotor was spotted by ASA SAT Officials and Danny Willard through the yellow again for the 4th time. It would be green for 22 circuits until lap 80 when the #05 of Gene Kirila III smack the backstretch cross over gate and the #05 of Alex Fleming spins again as well in turn 2. The final 20 circuit saw Hogan fighting off Peltier and #15 Clay Jones coming after him but they didn't have enough steam and #92 Jason Hogan would go on to win Back to Back at Hickory and the Kenly 100. #40 Taylor Satterfield was fourth and #74 of Jay Middleton would finish fifth. #5 of Preston Peltier with the 2nd place finish would hold off Middleton for the Beach Regional Championship but Middleton would have to wait till the points season finale in two weeks at Cordele, GA to win the National Title. Next race will be Oct.18th at Water Melon Capitol Speedway in Cordele, GA for more details go to www.asasoutheast.com.

The final event of the night was the Bobby Murray GM Performance Limited Late Models for 75 exciting laps and man what a way to night cap the evening.18 drivers took the green for the final caution filled race of the night. It was clean and green the first 5 laps until lap 6 when the 375 of Paul Bryant spun down the front stretch and stalling the car there after. On the restart they were racing hard for 10 laps when on lap 16 the #46 of Logan Bunning and the #3 of Travis Roberson get together hard in turn 2. Bunning continued while Roberson parked for the night. Southern National's version of the BIG ONE happened on lap 28 out of turn 4 when #12 Wesley Green, #46 Logan Bunning, #81 of David Warren, #0 Brad Arthur, #29 Melvin Langley and the #74 of Doug Mate tangle in turn 4 with some continuing and other being parked for the night. Then there was a long cycle of yellows flags involving single car spins and debris but the key caution happened on lap 63 with #71 Gary Davis leading the #12 of Wesley Green dove hard and made left rear contact with the #50 of Phillip Gibson Jr. ending Wesley Green's night Gibson would continue on. Now here's the climax of the event on the restart #71 of Gary Davis which was having a great run jumped the restart before the flagman threw the green and Race Director Troy Overby gave flagman Danny Willard the signal to point Davis to the rear. He and Davis's crew didn't like the call and started arguing with the turn one ASA official until the security took hold of the situation with that happening Davis was dejected and frustrated and instead of joining the rear he parked the#71 car for good. The jump on the restart by Davis then gave the lead to the #34 of Justin Snow. Then after that there was another series of single car and debris yellows throughout the event but it was hard racing and the fans were excited till the end. The 10th and final caution came on lap 73 when again the #12 of Wesley Green tangled again with another #50 car this being Jason White they both continued along which set up for a another Green, White, Checkered Finish and in the end Justin Snow would hold off a hard coming #99 Taylor Howard for his second LLM victory at SNRP. Rounding out the top five was #22 P.J. Flowers, #5 Stacy Pate, and #83 surprising run by Scott Lawrence.
